SMALL INTIMATE WEDDING, BUT PERFECTLY FORMED.
Intimate weddings are truly something amazing. They are intentional, personal, and relaxed.
Veronica and I had a small, intimate wedding ourselves, so not only do we understand the sentiment, but we also value the experience.
Joanna & Phil invited only their closest family and friends to celebrate their marriage with them on the sunny island of Malta. Phil & Joanna now live in Bristol, but Phil is originally from my patch of the world, the North East of England. It was so nice to be thousands of miles from the UK but to still hear the lovely familiar Northern accent (I'm slightly biased) from a lot of their wedding guests.
We do love our small weddings in the UK as well as our destination weddings. They are a slow, don't have the frenzy of fast-paced big weddings. The wedding day timeline is generally more loose and flexible, leaving the bride and groom ample opportunity for private moments with one another and extended conversations with their nearest and dearest.
Phil and Joanna, it was a true pleasure to celebrate with you and your family in sunny Malta.

Movie lovers, Becky & Oli decided to have their destination wedding on the tiny sunny island of Malta. Both Becky and Oli are British, but now live and work in Dubai. Inviting their family and guests to meet them in Malta to celebrate their wedding with them was a perfect compromise between the UK and UAE with pretty much guaranteed beautiful weather.
"Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore."
Becky & Oli are massive movie lovers and wanted to incorporate this into their wedding day. The Maltese venue Ir Razzet L-Abjad, was themed with movie table decorations, film themed gifts for their guests, cinema popcorn machine and an ingenious way to let the wedding guests know when it was their table's turn to head to the buffet. Every table was only given a number, and a secret identity (a movie) the table centre pieces had name/word clues to which movie the table was, and when music was played from that particular movie it was their time to go, brilliant!!
"If you build it, he will come."
The couple booked us to photograph their destination wedding from start to finish. I covered both parties preparation at the Radisson Blu Hotel in St Julians, followed by the civil ceremony and reception at Ir Razzet L-Abjad in San Gwann. WOW wedding planners (wed our way) did a fantastic job of setting up and arranging everything, so a big thank you to Martina, Laetitia and their team. The day went perfectly and everyone thought it was a huge boxoffice smash.
"My mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."
I really loved working with this insanely photogenic couple with all their positive energy, ideas and fun. We really wish them all the happiness in the world as they, the stars, make their own epic movie together.
"Carpe diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary"
"Hasta la vista, baby."

2018...A New Year!
This doesn't just mean goodbye to the old, but also a hello to fresh opportunities.
TAKING STOCK, SETTING GOALS & MAKING THINGS HAPPEN
Turning the page on a fresh new year, always gives such a sense of renewal and inspires hope for all that can be accomplished. January is a great time to set goals and preparation for the year/s ahead, big or small, and start putting those wheels in motion to get things done.
THE announcement - TIME TO TURN THE PAGE
So after many years photographing primarily destination weddings in Malta and Sicily, Veronica and I are both very excited to announce that we have made the decision to come back and focus (no pun intended) on photographing weddings back in the UK.
NORTH EAST WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
There will be many challenges ahead of us, re-establishing ourselves within the UK wedding market, both nationally and locally in the North East. Getting the word out there & letting couples know that we don't just do destination weddings, we cover all of England, Scotland & Wales.
GOING FULL CIRCLE BY COMING HOME
This is an exciting time for us as we have a full 2018 weddings season ahead of us continuing with our European destination weddings, but also have some weddings now back in the UK. Weddings this year are in North East & South East of England as well as Scotland. Very much looking to all the variety and challenges weddings in the UK brings.
We are in a lucky situation as 90% of our destination couples are all from the UK, and with them giving us amazing testimonials to their friends and family, most of our 2019 bookings in the UK are weddings in Kent, East Sussex, Tyne & Wear, Northumberland, Scottish Borders, Edinburgh and Oxfordshire.
NEW BEGINNINGS FROM WHERE IT ALL STARTED
After working for many years as a photojournalist in Newcastle Upon Tyne while undertaking local weddings in the area, I'm really looking forward to becoming familiar again with the North East wedding venues.
I'm slightly biased, but I have to say that the North East of England has some of the most beautiful countryside and coastline in the UK with some amazing locations for weddings. So of my favourite local venues in Northumberland & Durham are Healey Barn, Ellingham Hall, Doxford Barns & Slaley Hall, Langley Castle, Newton Hall, Kirklinton Hall, Northside Farm, Lumley Castle and the recently visited Derwent Manor Hotel.
So, here's to the future and to all the fun of photographing awesome weddings back in Blighty.
It's going to be a blast!!

WHITE WINTER
WONDERLAND WEDDING
* NORTHEAST WEDDING VENUE *
The Derwent Manor Hotel, Northumberland.
Derwent Manor is set within twenty acres of the one of the most beautiful parts of the Northumbrian countryside. The Manor in Allensford is surprisingly close to two major cities, just being about half an hour from both Newcastle Upon Tyne and Durham city.
Mother nature is very unpredictable at the best of times, especially with weddings in the UK, but on this occasion her timing was impeccable. At Derwent Manor, the day before was filled with sunshine, blue skies and green fields. Waking up to a winter wonderland the following day, with 2-3 inches of fresh snow, was just magical and a perfect romantic setting for a white winter wedding.
Derwent Manor Hotel, in Allensford, has 54 bedrooms including five suites that can accommodate wedding guests. There are also six luxury boutique cottages, where I had the pleasure of staying, a restaurant, bar, leisure club, pool and spa. But my favourite has to be the grounds with surrounding views, which were breathtaking.
The Grand Hall, The Allensford Suite and the Garden Room are three main suites to hold wedding ceremonies, wedding breakfasts and receptions. The Grand Hall is the largest, with a capacity of 250 people, and the smallest is the Garden Room, holding a maximum of 100 guests.
We are very much looking forward to our next stay and future weddings at the Derwent Manor Hotel. Please contact to check availability as well as request for wedding photography pricing.

Wedding Ceremony & Reception: - Villa Bologna
Stunning couple Henrieta & Stuart that are currently living in Dubai, decided to host their dream destination wedding in sunny Malta so their wedding guests from all sides of the globe to join them in celebrating their special day.
This was also a dream wedding for me as it was one of the first 'Unplugged' wedding as Henrieta & Stuart has asked family, friends and guests to turn off their phones, iPads, cameras and other digital distractions during the ceremony and reception. Another thing that I loved about this particular wedding was that they didn't want any formal photo's at their wedding.
“This is an easy one... we really want to move away from the usual “posed” pictures and the usual hour- long session of photo taking we see at most weddings. We’d simply love if the pictures just captured the happiness of the day, and are of us and our guests “in action” - no need for a roll-call of posed pictures :) ”
The wedding day started off with both parties preparations in the Palace Hotel in Sliema starting off with the ladies within 'The View Suite'. The Palace had many themed rooms but the View suite with it's clean lines and the interesting reflections from the many mirrors placed on the walls is very modern and elegant. The Palace is a great choice of Hotel which is nestled in heart of Sliema and one that many destination wedding couples like to stay.
The wedding ceremony was held within the Baroque gardens of the Villa Bologna which is a one of the best wedding venues on the island and one I never get tired of photographing. After the ceremony everyone made the way to the wedding reception that was set in the larger rear garden right next to the famous Dolphin fountain.
Thankfully the Villa does have a huge Marquee within it's garden which is an excellent option when mother nature mis-behaves, something that she did do that late on in the evening during the reception. The skies unexpectedly opened with a downpour, catching everyone by surprise including the band which had all their electronic equipment in the open air of the garden.
In some cultures, rain on your wedding day is considered very good luck. Here's to wishing both Henrieta & Stuart all the luck and happiness in the world for their new exciting adventure as husband & wife.

Louise and Adam from Sowerby Bridge in West Yorkshire chose Naxxar's elegantly beautiful Palazzo Parisio to host their destination wedding in Malta.
So impressed with how dedicated and creative this couple were with the amount of time and preparation they put into their big day themselves. For example, I was blown away at all the work that Adam had did, when he made all the fairy lit word signs that where places all over the Palazzo Parisio's garden that they had to transport them all 1000's of miles from the UK to Malta.
The wedding ceremony was held in the Parisio's grand golden ballroom. I'm always amazed of that spectacular room - it's outrageously beautiful. Their wedding reception was all held within the Palazzo's beautiful and celebrated gardens. It's only garden to be included within the 'Grandi Giardini Italiani' association collection that's not within the Republic of Italy.
It was a honour to spend the day this lovely couple, their cute daughter and all their family and friends from the UK, many of which were great and funny characters that made the day extra special.

Elopement at Villa Bologna.
NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
To many, the term “elope” still conjures images of hasty lovers stumbling into secret chapels, or budget careful couples looking to save a few pennies on the guest list.
But elopements have changed.....
Today, they have become an intimate alternative to a those traditional weddings, where the details matter less than the vows being exchanged. Eloping is an incredibly romantic and wild way for adventurous couples to profess their love in some of the most stunning romantic destinations. Villa Bologna and Mdina are perfect examples of romantic destinations within Malta.
Colleen & David, from the USA, love travel and chose the far away destination of Malta to have their marriage with the help of wedding planner Alexia Azzopardi from Wed in Malta. Both Americans had never visited Malta before and where drawn to the adventure of it as well as the beauty that awaited them.
The civil ceremony was set within the Baroque gardens of Villa Bologna in Attard. Alexia had another accompany her to act as another witness during the ceremony. As Colleen and David had a dinner reservations in the silent city of Mdina we met up within the city walls to capture some portraits of them in the medieval city walls.
Below are a few of the highlights from Colleen & David's elopement in Malta.

Chateau Impney Hotel is located in Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire in the West Midlands, is one of the finest, most authentic examples of classic French chateau-style buildings in the UK, with a rich history spanning more than 100 years. I was initially stunned and surprised at seeing the french Chateau for the frist time in person when arriving on it's grounds for our pre-wedding meeting. Aditi & Ketan's unique choice of wedding venue was a photographers dream and I couldn't wait for their special day to arrive.
Due to my popularity as a destination wedding photographer, it was such a treat for me to be able to photograph a wedding at home in good old Blighty especially during August with perfect English summer weather.
We had met Aditi & Ketan at Aditi's sisters destination wedding one year perviously in Malta. This was a lovely re-union seeing their family and friends again while capturing them all during the wedding celebrations over the fourteen hours of photography coverage.
So much colour and so many smiles.
It was a fantastically exhausting but rewarding day that gave me a huge satisfied smile on my face afterwards. So very grateful the opportunity to be able to photograph such a stunning couple at such a beautiful venue and location, with their families, some of whom we can now call friends. I do have the best job in the world.
Aditi & Ketan from London, chose the Chateau Impney that's set in the heart of the Midlands countryside to host both their Hindu and Civil wedding ceremonies as well as their spectacular wedding reception. The Chateau specialises in South Asian and Indian weddings within their Broadway Suite which can accommodate 850 guests.
A big thank you to everyone mentioned below who as a pleasure to work along side and through their hard work made Aditi & Ketan's wedding unforgettable.

“Elliot... Wow!
Thank you so much for capturing these incredible shots. I don’t think we will ever tire of looking through these. Just amazing! Thank you both so much. It was a pleasure to meet you and Veronica.
Thank you once again. We are absolutely thrilled!”
Lisa & Richie from Inverness, Scotland, wanted Malta to be the place to celebrate their special day together with their family and friends.
This gorgeous couple had lived in Malta in the very popular St Julians for a few years and loved the time and their experience there. Having very fond memories of the island, it's people and not forgetting Malta's amazing climate, it was an easy choice and the perfect place for them to have their destination wedding in the sun.
They decided to have their civil ceremony held in the beautiful Baroque Gardens of Villa Bologna in quiet Maltese town of Attard. This has to be one of my favourite wedding venues in Malta. Over the years I've photographed many weddings at Villa Bologna, but always finding new and different inspiration at each and every wedding.
The wedding reception was held around the Dolphin Fountain. The gardens, fountain and back facade of the Villa Bologna are illuminated during the evening and makes a truly romantic evening setting.

Louise & Phil @ Palazzo Parisio
Mexican day of the dead themed wedding in Malta.
Louise who is Maltese now lives in the UK with Phil in London. They booked me initially to captured their wedding at the Phoenicia Hotel in Floriana near the Maltese capital city Valletta, Malta. Due to the hotel's refurbishment which had ran over it's completion deadline, Louise's family had to help with searching for a new venue and re-organising of the wedding once one had been found.
Thankfully the perfect wedding venue was found at the Palazzo Parisio in Naxxar. Due to it's popularity and being booked on their planned wedding date everything was put back one day later to accommodate than venue.
Both Louise and Phil are very creative people with their own style and decided to run with a Mexican day of the dead (Día de Muertos) themed with the artistic skull art that I love. They carried this style from the smallest of detailed cufflinks through to their wedding cake. Mexican day of the day skull art is definitely not the norm in Malta and that's want I really like about this British and Maltese fusion wedding. I love photographing weddings that are unique and visually different. Louise and Phil are two fun characters that I won't forget and we really had so much fun with them on their wedding day.

Wedding Reception: - Palazzo Parisio, Naxxar, Malta
We first met Maureen and Marvin at their engagement session that we photographed in the National Library in Valletta - Link to their engagement blog here.
Everyone that knows Maureen and Marvin will know this statement is true, they are truly one of the most loveliest couples that you would ever meet.....ever! I can't put it into words, but if you ever meet this couple you will know exactly what I'm talking about.
Photographing their wedding was a complete pleasure from start to finish. Both their church ceremony at St Pauls chapel in Naxxar and their reception venue at Palazzo Parisio are favourites of ours.
The tiny little historic chapel San Pawl tat-Traga in Naxxar is built on the very spot that St Paul himself preached to the Maltese according to the legend. The present building finished in 1699 did replace an earlier building that was destroyed at the beginning of the 17th century. It's a beautiful chapel and somewhere quite special.
If you're read any of my blogs about weddings at the Palazzo Parisio will know how amazing it is especially with garden wedding receptions just like Maureen & Marvin's.

St Julians, Attard, Mdina & San Gwann.
Unlike most foreign couples wanting to get married in Malta, Deirdre & Jon from Headford in Country Galway, Ireland, decided that their wedding day would be in four different locations in the north of Malta.
Malta is such a beautiful location for a destination wedding and many of their Irish guests hadn't been to Malta before, it's was a great idea to have the big event spread out in different locations on the island.
The wedding day preparations started at the Radisson Blu Resort in St Georges Bay, St Julians where both Deirdre and Jon's parties where all staying.
The chosen Church for the wedding ceremony was the beautiful Parish church of St Mary's in the centre of Attard.
The Medieval city of Mdina is a favourite with Deirdre & Jon which it was a location that they had to visit during the day. This worked out perfectly as they got some time to themselves after the ceremony as well as some Bride & Groom portraits within The Silent Cities walls.
While Deirdre and Jon where in Mdina, their wedding guests all made their way to the wedding reception venue Ir-Razzett L-Abjad in San Gwann where the newlyweds shorty joined them in their vintage wedding car to celebrate their special day together, well into the night.

Thankfully now with Malta being LGBT-friendly with the change to the Maltese Civil Unions Bill on 14th April 2014 which gives the right & recognition of same-sex unions. Since my first gay marriage in August 2014 with Ian & Richard, I've had the honour and pleasure to be able to photograph many same-sex marriages on this little Mediterranean island.

Ceremony:- Mdina Cathedral
Reception: - Olive Gardens, Mdina
Zoe & AJ from Ireland chose Mdina as their dream wedding destination.
Mdina, also known as the 'Silent City' and used to be the old Maltese capital from the 8th century until it was changed to the now present day capital of Valletta in 1571.
Mdina is a small fortified city which is car free (well, apart for the small amount of resident's cars) that happens to be a favourite with 750,000 tourists a year as well as engaged couples wanting to their engagement session within it's walls. If you've not been and planning a visit to Malta, make sure that this is on you do see list. It is like stepping back in time wandering through the quiet narrow streets where you'll only hear the sound of horse's hooves on the stone streets and see stunning Norman and Baroque architecture.
Zoe & Paul wanted to take advantage of this amazing place after their wedding ceremony in St Paul's Cathedral which is in the heart of the city. We left their wedding party who headed off to the reception venue to give us a little time so I could capture some Bride & Groom portraits of the happy couple in Mdina before we joined their guests at the Olive Gardens. The Olive gardens is a wonderful wedding venue and is just outside the city which benefits from having beautiful Mdina as a backdrop especially at night when it's all light up.
The photos below are some of the highlights of Zoe and AJ's wedding day in Mdina. Enjoy.
Zoe & AJ's wedding photography review: -
““The photos are AMAZING!!!!!! THANK YOU so much. We are so happy with everything about them, they are fun, relaxed and natural. We can’t wait to show them to family and friends! Thank you for making it all so relaxed in the weather conditions. You were so understanding to our needs and got the shots so fast, so that we where not standing out in the sun for too long.
We love the portrait shots in Mdina and the church! You also got some lovely shots of AJ waiting in the church and we also love the photos with children and the dancing ones too. We love them all!! :)
We really enjoyed the whole experience, you are so professional and a lovely couple to work with.
Hopefully will be enjoying our beautiful photos for many, many years to come.
Thanks so much for everything it been a blast! ””

ELIZABETH & RICKY | PALAZZO PARISIO
NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE BASED WEDDING PHOTOJOURNALIST
Greek wedding traditions in Malta.
Elizabeth and Ricky from Enfield in North London. Elizabeth's heritage is Greek and many of their guests and family had made the trip from England & Greece to join them in at their chosen wedding destination of Malta to celebrate their marriage.
There were a lot of Greek wedding traditions incorporated into their wedding day starting off at the brides residence in Naxxar.
Elizabeth chose the 'getting ready' location due to the proximity to the Palazzo Parisio as traditionally the greek bride would walk with her bridal party to the ceremony. Now here is the favourite greek tradition that I absolutely love - Before the bride leaves her residence to walk to the ceremony, she writes on the soles of her wedding shoes all the names of the single women attending the wedding. During the walk to the ceremony, the first name to be rubbed off her shoes would be the next woman to find love and marry. It's a lovely take on the well known bouquet throw.
Elizabeth & Ricky's wedding ceremony was setup in the Palazzo's Sala Lombarda (Red Room). Wedding Reception speeches and meal were in the Parisio's golden grand Ballroom. Cake cutting, bar and dancing was on the Palazzo Parisio's Balcony Terrace.
The images below are some of the highlights from Elizabeth & Ricky's beautiful destination wedding at the Palazzo Parisio in Naxxar, Malta.

NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE BASED WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER.
English couple chose a small sunny island as their perfect wedding destination.
Siobhan & Tim from Gillingham in Kent, booked an engagement session with me when they first arrived in Malta a few days before the wedding. I do think that pre-wedding sessions are great ice breakers as well to helping couples relax in front of the camera before the big day.
After collecting them for their hotel for their pre-wedding session, we headed off to the San Anton Gardens in Attard. Siobhan and Tim wanted to visit the gardens during their wedding day between the church and the reception locations. Being able to take time to walk around the gardens without the time constraints was great and we were able to seek out locations within the gardens that they liked for their session and save their favourite spots for their big day.
Wedding ceremony was at The Parish Church of Saint Mary in Attard & their wedding reception was at Villa Arrigo in Naxxar.
The images below are from that very special day.....

A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSANDS WORDS
Bride in her mothers eye
The strength of just this one image from the 2016 wedding season has had many couples book me for their wedding.
An image that captured brides & grooms
The strength of just this one image from the 2016 wedding season has had many couples book me for their wedding.
I love this photo of a bride reflected in her mothers eye but it's surprising all the same to hear all the same from my Brides & Grooms and what made them decided to book me to capture their special day.
I have to be honest and say that this image took a few attempts to capture it at different weddings in 2016 until I got the perfect image. Lighting the Bride with a off camera flash and radio system set up wasn't so difficult but using a 100mm Macro lens with it's very shallow depth of field and whilst trying to focus manually on a reflective surface like the eye in low-light conditions has it's challenges. Movement from both subjects and myself meant that point of focus was continuously changing.
I remember showing the Bride and her mother this shot straight away in camera and their reactions are one of amazement. Needless to say during that wedding reception I think most of their wedding guests approached me to see 'the photo' that everyone was talking about.
