I've long had a love affair in this stunning town built on a hillside over looking the perfectly blue Mediterranean sea, even well before even visiting it in person. I first found out about this beautiful gem when I was only 13 years old, thanks to my all time favourite movie 'The Big Blue' or 'Le Grand Bleu' by Luc Besson. The movie's story is about the friendship and sporting rivalry between two leading champion free divers that followed them from their childhood in 1960s Greece to their deaths in a 1980s Sicilian diving competition set in Taormina. Hope you get the chance to watch this movie as it's a classic and the soundtrack by Éric Serra is so, so beautiful.
I can't think of a more romantic destination wedding location in Europe than Taormina. The town is set on the east coast of Sicily and is found clinging to the side of a dramatic coastline. It's been a top tourist destination since the 19th Century with it's Ancient theatre of Taormina (Greek) and the near proximity the world's largest most active Volcano, Mount Etna.
Polly & Sean from West Sussex, UK, chose this truly amazing place for their friends & family to witness and celebrate their very special day.
The wedding ceremony was within the Sicilian 14th Century Palazzo Duchi di Santo Stefano also known as The Palace of the Dukes of Santo Stefano.
Wedding Reception was in Letojanni which is a small town outside of Taormina and where the whole wedding party were staying - Parc Hotel Olimpo on Via Germano Chincherini.
Unfortunately not all of Polly and Sean's family could make the trip to Sicily. Thankfully, through modern technology grandparents could be present during the wedding ceremony using Skype video call on an iPad.
I've added a few images below are from Polly and Sean's Sicilian destination wedding in Taormina.
