Lisa & Stuart @ The Dolmen Resort Hotel, Malta.
Lisa and Stuart from Belfast in Northern Ireland booked me to photograph and capture the special moments of their small intimate destination wedding at The Dolmen in Qawra in St Paul's Bay, Malta.
The wedding ceremony was setup on the Amazonia Lower Deck right next to the Mediterranean sea. The Amazonia Lower Deck area is the largest outdoor function area in the resort, with breathtaking views of the St.Paul’s Islands and the Mediterranean Sea.
I don't as a rule, try not to re-arrange any wedding setups as this has been a couples choice on where they wanted their wedding ceremony located. But due to the low sun at that time of day (19:00 CET) and the direction of the setup - guests would find it difficult to watch and enjoy the ceremony due to the intensity of the sunlight.
This is definitely something to think about if your are planning a evening wedding by the sea. This would also cause problems for photography and videography when dealing with a strongly backlight scene.
How I solved the problem (BIG thank you to all the dolmen staff that helped) was to changed the angle of whole wedding ceremony setup therefore reducing the glare from the sun and it's reflection on the sea.
The wedding reception was held in the Aqua Terrance which is a large terrace overlooks St. Paul’s Islands and offers direct access from the Qawra Promenade.
Weddings at the Dolmen generally have a very causal and relaxed holiday feel to them.
